Upcoming Trash Run, Tues. July 26th

The next trash run has been scheduled! It will be held on Tuesday July 26th at 6:30 pm. The meetup spot will be at the the parking lot off of main street, just before the bridge over the Ventura River leading north out of Ventura. (If you cross the bridge and see the RV park on your left then you went to far.)

Gloves and trash bags will be provided. We have a limited number of mechanical trash grabbers, so we will have to share. Using the trash grabbers and holding a bag of trash can get tricky, I have found pairing up with other trash runners is the best method. Plus this is a great way to socialize and make new friends!

This is a great way to give back to our community, and picking up trash directly effects our local running paths for the better, environmentally, and visually. We, the Ventura Trash Runners, encourage everyone to come out and participate. Come socialize with local athletes from around Ventura. Bring your family and friends. Our trash runs are a fantastic way to teach environmentally sound methods in a fun, safe environment.

Here is the link to the Ventura Trash Runners official meetup site. From here you can see upcoming trash runs, as well as post pictures and comment on past events. There will also be updates here, on the Ventura Trash Runners Blog. I encourage anyone who has enjoyed the view from one of Ventura's many bike/running paths to come out for one of our trash runs. Giving an hour of your time, once a month, to do some productive and meaningful in a fun, social atmosphere is an easy thing to do. So save the date, Tuesday July 26th at 6:30 pm, bring a friend and come join the fun!

Hello and Welcome!

Who Are the Ventura Trash Runners?

We, The Ventura Trash Runners, are a group of runners, bicyclists, and many other athletes who get together to clean up several running and bike paths around the City of Ventura, CA. All of the Ventura Trash Runners are Ventura County locals who actively use the running and bike paths. We can tell you first hand that there is so much trash littered on our paths. It is a horrible contrast to run around a corner and see a beautiful sunset falling behind the majestic Channel Islands, while the ground is strewn with cigarette butts, cans, fast food wrappers, USED NEEDLES, AND CRACK PIPES!!! This is our town, and these are our paths; we, the Ventura Trash Runners, will not give them up without a fight. Someone has to go out and fight this problem head on! We are committed to this endeavor, but cannot do it alone.

Our Proposition to You:

Are you a Ventura County local, who happens to run, and who cares about the environment?

If you use the paths around Ventura for your workouts, or evening walks and you have seen the trash lying around, don't turn a blind eye to it! Instead, come join us, the Ventura Trash Runners, for one of our events. (Stay tuned for updates here, and "Follow" our blog to receive keep track of upcoming events!)

The VTR's meet once a month to pick up trash, and go for a group run. All the sanitary equipment is provided: gloves, bags, trash picker uppers.

We meet at a predetermined path and walk along, socializing while picking up trash. Once our bags are full we throw away all the trash (you would be amazed how much trash there is!), and then run back to the starting point.

You don't have to run to be part of the group, but since we are the Ventura Trash Runners, running is strongly encouraged!

We love getting to know our neighbors!

This is a great way to socialize with local athletes of all ages. As well as a great way to benefit the places we like to frequent. If you can dedicate 1 or 2 hours out of the month to come out and enjoy good company, while doing something that benefits the environment and your local community as well, then grab a few friends and come join us for a trash run!

You can see upcoming events, and join our group here on www.meetup.com.
